Senator Bamidele, who also serves as Chairman of the APC Governorship Campaign Council, moved round the two major communities alongside Governor Oyebanji and other top party leaders to canvass support for the governor’s second term bid.

The campaign train first arrived in Ilawe Ekiti, headquarters of Ekiti South West Local Government Area, before proceeding to Igede Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area, where party supporters, community leaders, youth groups and market women turned out in large numbers to receive the delegation.

Before addressing the campaign rallies in both towns, the delegation paid traditional homage to the monarchs of the two communities and received royal blessings for the forthcoming election.

At Ilawe Ekiti, the team was warmly received by the Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi, Afuntade I, while the monarch of Igede Ekiti, Oba James Adelusi Aladesuru II, also hosted the delegation at his palace in Igede Ekiti.

The highly revered traditional rulers offered prayers for peace, progress and a successful outing for Governor Oyebanji in the June 20 governorship election. They also charged political leaders and residents to continue to sustain peace and unity across their communities during and after the electoral process.

Speaking during the rallies, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji appreciated residents of the two local government areas for their consistent support and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to people-oriented governance, infrastructure development, youth empowerment and improved welfare for the people of Ekiti State.

The campaign rallies also featured remarks from prominent party stakeholders including the Director General of the Campaign Council, Cyril Fasuyi, Deputy Director General, Yemi Adaramodu, and several other APC leaders who urged the people to vote massively for Governor Oyebanji in order to consolidate on the achievements already recorded by the administration.

In his address, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele thanked the people of Ekiti South West and Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Areas for their unwavering support for Governor Oyebanji over the last three and a half years.

According to him, the administration of Governor Oyebanji has continued to deliver impactful projects and programmes across critical sectors of the state, including road infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, rural development and social investment.

Senator Bamidele stressed that the governor’s re-election remains the surest path to sustaining the ongoing developmental projects spread across different parts of Ekiti State.

He urged residents not to allow the progress already being witnessed under the Oyebanji administration to be interrupted, adding that continuity in governance would further accelerate growth and bring more dividends of democracy to the grassroots.

Governors serving their first term under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are currently holding a strategic meeting in Kebbi State, in what is seen as a significant political gathering ahead of the 2027 general election.

The meeting, hosted by Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, is taking place at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, and has brought together first-term APC governors from across the federation to deliberate on issues affecting the ruling party and national governance.

Among the governors attending the meeting are Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Usman Ododo (Kogi), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Ahmad Aliyu (Sokoto), and Agbu Kefas (Taraba).

Governors who were unable to attend in person are being represented by their respective deputy governors.

Although the official agenda of the meeting has not been disclosed, sources familiar with the development indicate that discussions are expected to focus on the political direction of the APC, governance priorities, and preparations ahead of the 2027 general election.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of recent developments within the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), the umbrella body of APC governors, which has experienced internal disagreements following the emergence of a rival leadership bloc.

In May, the forum witnessed a leadership dispute after a faction challenged the leadership of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, who has maintained that he remains the duly recognized Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum. The opposing group reportedly aligned behind Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Political observers believe the Kebbi meeting provides an opportunity for first-term APC governors to strengthen collaboration, exchange governance experiences, and harmonize positions on key party and national issues as political activities ahead of the next electoral cycle gradually gather momentum.
