Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi has assured the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that the state will vote en masse for the party in February next year’s election.

Umahi gave the assurance while speaking at the commissioning of the Ebonyi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja on Wednesday. He also noted that the South-East state is planning a mega rally for the APC presidential flagbearer.

“We would do a rally that has never been witnessed in the entire South-East in Ebonyi State. Any party that comes to Ebonyi and is able to get 10 percent of that population, we would allocate some votes to you because none of you can do that,” he said during the event.

“So, we welcome Asiwaju and the governors to Ebonyi State for the mother of all rallies. Your excellency, you will see what an engineer can do when you come. We are not hiding to say that you are our candidate and you will take care of South-East people and all our votes will go to APC. There is no mistake about that.

“So, the people of the South-East, we have spoken. I am the Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum so, I speak on their behalf. We know where it would be better for us in 2023 and that is the APC.

The event was attended by Tinubu and other members of Nigeria’s ruling party

Obi Dumps ADC, Cites Internal Crisis and Division

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Obi disclosed this in a statement shared on his verified X handle on Sunday, explaining that his decision was not influenced by any personal grievances with the party’s leadership.

He noted that he holds the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, in high regard, as well as former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, whom he described as a leader and elder brother. According to him, none of them treated him unfairly.

The former Anambra State governor, however, expressed concern over what he described as growing instability within the party. He alleged that the same systemic issues that destabilised the Labour Party—such as internal conflicts, prolonged court cases, and divisions—are beginning to surface within the ADC.

Obi added that these developments are diverting attention away from addressing critical national challenges, accusing the political system of prioritising control and exclusion over genuine service and nation-building.

We’re Not Part of Any Consensus Deal” – APC Aspirants Insist

Four aspirants contesting for the Ondo East/Ondo West Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the All Progressives Congress have accused the party’s state leadership of plotting to impose a consensus candidate ahead of the primaries.

The aspirants Jibayo Adeyeye, Ade Adeniyi, Bola Fisayo and Michael Ajilo made the allegation in a communiqué issued after a meeting held on Thursday. They warned that such a move would undermine internal democracy.

The four candidates insisted they were not part of any consensus arrangement leading to the endorsement of any candidate for the constituency. They noted that they had already obtained their expression of interest and nomination forms and were fully prepared for a direct primary.

They also called for a transparent process to determine the party’s flagbearer, stating that they had offered themselves as credible alternatives within the APC. According to the aspirants, ongoing internal consultations among themselves could still yield a consensus in due course.

In response, the party’s state leadership dismissed the allegations as unfounded and premature. A party official noted that the primary election had not yet been conducted and that the sale of nomination forms was still ongoing. It would therefore be premature, the official argued, for anyone to speak of a consensus at this stage.

The party further stated that the state governor had been convening quarterly stakeholders’ meetings and consulting party members across the three senatorial districts. If there were any intention to impose a candidate, such extensive consultations would have been unnecessary, the leadership added.

Meanwhile, tensions within the party have reportedly spilled into street-level protests, with some members in Odigbo Local Government Area demonstrating against alleged imposition plans ahead of the primaries. The party leadership assured members that all internal disagreements would be addressed through due process to ensure fairness.
