Hoodlums suspected to be members of the Eastern Security Network, ESN, an armed group of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, early hours of Monday, attacked Obowo Police Station in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo state, with petrol bombs and explosive devices, causing damages and injuring some police officers on duty.

The State Police Public Relations Officers, PPRO, Micheal Abattam, confirmed this to newsmen in Owerri.

He said the hoodlums launched the attack from the thick forest around the Police station from the rear side of the police building.

However, the police said the officers on duty responded immediately engaged the hoodlums and chased them away back to the forest.

He said during the chase that some arms and ammunition were recovered including the recovery of three undetonated explosives.

According to the Police, “On the 28th day of March 2022 at about 0200 hours, armed men suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra ( IPOB )/ Eastern Security Network ( ESN ), its militia wing came in their numbers from the rear of the division, which is an ungoverned forest, threw petrol bombs and Improvised Explosive Devices(IED) that fell on the transit camp and a vehicle, shooting sporadically.

“The police operatives of the division and some of the Command’s Tactical Teams responded swiftly, engaging the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel preventing them from gaining entrance to the station and in the process forced the hoodlums into retreating and they escaped back into the forest with various degrees of bullet wounds.

“The police operatives gave them a hot chase and while combing the bush the following items were recovered on the spot: three(3) undetonated Explosives, four(4) expended AK 47 RIFLES ammunition, five(5) live cartridges, thirty-three (33) expended cartridges, two masks, one pump action gun and a motor saw machine.”

“Meanwhile, apart from the minimal damage to the transit camp and a vehicle, no life was lost. However, the police operative who sustained a minor gunshot injury has been treated,” Police said.

Gunmen on Sunday night abducted Mrs. Patience Nasamu, wife of Pastor Samuel Nasamu of the Word of God Church, Agyaragu, and a female church member who was visiting the family, in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Pastor Nasamu, recounting the incident, said his wife, who is nursing a three-month-old baby, was taken alongside the visitor shortly after a church service.

“I had just stepped out to pray for a sick member when my wife called me. All I could hear was her praying; she couldn’t even explain what was happening. By the time I rushed back, both she and our visitor had been abducted, leaving our baby behind,” he said.

According to him, the attackers arrived at about 8:15 p.m., smashing windows and doors with a hammer in an attempt to gain entry. When that failed, they fired gunshots into the air, forcing his wife to open the door before whisking her and the church member away.

He added that no contact has been made by the kidnappers since the abduction, while police officers who visited the scene assured residents that investigations were ongoing.

A resident of Agyaragu, who spoke anonymously, described the spate of kidnappings in the area as “alarming,” and appealed to Governor Abdullahi Sule to take urgent action.

“We live in fear every day, knowing we could be kidnapped or killed if ransom is not paid. Farmers and residents are taken almost daily. Help us tell Governor A. A. Sule that Agyaragu is now at the mercy of kidnappers,” the resident lamented.

Police authorities have begun investigations to determine what led to her death, even as her family and community grapple with unanswered questions.

For her husband and children, the painful reality is not just the loss of a wife and mother, but the haunting memory of her final words.

The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered a trans-border child trafficking syndicate, rescuing 11 victims and arresting four suspects allegedly involved in recruiting and transporting young Nigerians to Ghana for prostitution.

The Command said operatives from the Ilemba Hausa Division intercepted one Mustapha Abubakar on August 13, 2025, while he attempted to traffic a 15-year-old girl to Ghana. The case was later transferred to the Special Squad I, which launched a manhunt based on credible intelligence.

The operation led to the arrest of three other suspects: Charles Chima (54) in Amuwo Odofin, Emmanuel Nwaka (36) along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, and Princess John (21) at Ojota. Investigations revealed they belonged to a wider criminal network engaged in cross-border trafficking of young women.

Ten additional victims, aged between 21 and 29, were subsequently rescued and are receiving protective care and support, with arrangements being made to reunite them with their families.

The suspects are in police custody and cooperating with investigators to identify other members of the syndicate.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the operatives for their swift response and reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for human trafficking. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
