The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, accusing him of making statements capable of inciting violence.
In a press statement issued on April 26, 2026, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party alleged that Governor Makinde referenced the historic “Operation Wetie” during a political gathering in Ibadan on April 25, a move the APC described as dangerous and irresponsible.
The party said the governor’s comments pose a threat to peace and national security, noting that as a sitting governor, he holds a constitutional duty to maintain order. It added that such rhetoric could encourage unrest and destabilize the country.
APC called on security and intelligence agencies to take the matter seriously and act to protect lives and property, emphasizing that no public office holder should make statements capable of endangering citizens.
The statement also dismissed claims by opposition figures about Nigeria drifting toward a one-party state, describing such assertions as misleading and a reflection of internal crises within opposition parties.
According to the APC, opposition parties have failed to present a clear alternative vision for governance and are instead relying on what it termed “fear-driven narratives.”
Reaffirming its position, the party said it remains committed to democratic principles under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and vowed to continue preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The APC maintained that Nigeria’s democracy remains active, with multiple political parties participating freely in the electoral process.
