Ahead of the 2023 general elections, Rep. James Faleke (APC-Lagos) says the support group for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential ambition will take off in October.

Faleke disclosed this during the inauguration of Asiwaju Women Cooperative Society (AWCS), on Saturday in Abuja.

“Tinubu Support Group will be inaugurated in October and I urge you to be fully on ground in your states so that you can be a contact person,’’ Faleke told the women.

He commended AWCS for persuading Tinubu to contest the presidential election, and expressed excitement at their support, saying women should not be ignored at elections because they constituted a great number of voters.

“This is a selfless goal and an instinct from your leader which prompted her to canvass support for Asiwaju’s presidency in 2023.

“We must all register in our various wards as card carrying members of our party; that is the only thing you can do to make Asiwaju the president of Nigeria,’’ Faleke said

He noted that Tinubu remained the only person that could pilot the affairs of the country, adding that his achievement as Lagos State governor was a testament.

“You can be sure that if Tinubu did great in Lagos State as governor and leader, he will do more for the country,’’ he stressed.

Faleke said the message of the group would be communicated to Tinubu and his support could be guaranteed.

He said other presidential hopefuls were qualified, but that Tinubu was more qualified.

“He has the support base in every state. He has legacies. He has made leaders. If he is not available, you think he is available.

“That is the man we want. He does not care whether you are a Muslim or Christian; he doesn’t care whether you are rich or poor.

“His door is open to all. So what we can do is to honour him and ensure that he succeeds and becomes Nigeria president,’’ Faleke also said.

Falaeke later donated N1million to the group, saying it was a seed to serve as take-off grant for AWCS.

In her remarks, Rep. Miriam Onuoah (APC-Imo) also urged AWCS to champion the possibility of Tinubu becoming Nigeria’s president, stressing that their support would go a long way.

She commended the initiative, stressing that it would help to power women.

Responding, Mrs Toyin Badmus, Chairman, AWCS, said the group’s mission was to create awareness at the grassroots level for Asiwaju Tinubu on the need to support women for entrepreneurship.

“Our mission is to be able to set up a food bank in each of the 774 local government areas of the country so that the poorest of the poor can have access to food.

“Our cooperative will ensure that women will be able to borrow money and pay as low as one per cent interest rate, which is for administrative charges.  This will go a long way,’’ she said.

Badmus stated that if Tinubu declined to contest the presidential election, “we the women will insist that he must run.’’ (NAN)

A member of the House of Representatives and aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for Ekiti North Federal Constituency II, Hon. Akinlayo Davidson Kolawole, has rejected the results announced for the exercise, describing them as inconsistent with the wishes of party delegates and supporters.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Assistant on Special Duty, Kunle Adetifa, the lawmaker said the outcome declared by the Returning Officer did not reflect the true votes cast during the primary election.

Kolawole alleged that the process fell short of the standards of transparency, fairness and due process expected in a credible party primary, insisting that the announced results failed to represent the actual will of delegates across the constituency.

The federal lawmaker maintained that his aspiration enjoyed massive grassroots support throughout Ekiti North Federal Constituency II and expressed confidence that a transparent collation process would have affirmed the mandate given to him by party faithful.

He called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress and relevant electoral authorities to intervene by reviewing the conduct of the primary election and ensuring that the authentic outcome of the exercise is upheld in accordance with party guidelines and democratic principles.

Kolawole also appealed to his supporters to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding, assuring them that all legitimate and lawful measures would be pursued to protect their mandate and preserve the integrity of the electoral process.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives Election Committee has announced the results of the party’s just-concluded primary elections in Ekiti State, declaring that the National Working Committee (NWC) will determine the final outcome of the disputed Ekiti North Federal Constituency I primary.

Chairman of the election committee and returning officer, Asipa Adedoyin Wasiu Banjo, said the primary election in the Oye/Ikole Federal Constituency was disrupted by crises beyond the control of the committee.

According to him, the issues that emerged during the exercise were beyond the powers of the committee to resolve, adding that there was no provision for a rerun under the party’s constitution.

Banjo explained that the APC National Working Committee would review the situation and determine the final outcome of the Oye/Ikole Federal Constituency House of Representatives primary election.

The election was keenly contested between former House of Representatives member Bimbo Daramola and incumbent lawmaker Akin Rotimi. Karounwi defeated incumbent House of Representatives member, Biodun Omoleye, polling 6,573 votes against Omoleye’s 1,412 votes.

In Ekiti South Federal Constituency I, Toyin Okoro defeated serving lawmaker Rufus Adeniyi Ojuawo to secure the party’s ticket.
