As preparations for next year general elections continue to gather momentum, President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan has urged Nigerians to continue to entrust the affairs of the country to the All Progressive Congress(APC) stressing that APC is the party to trust.

Lawan made the appeal on Sunday in Lagos at the fifth edition of the empowerment programme of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola who is representing Lagos West Senatorial District.

The event which held at the premises of the Nigeria Police College, Ikeja was also witnessed by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The Senate President described Lagos as home for APC and expressed the confidence that “APC, by the Grace of God, will continue to rule Lagos and rule Nigeria.”

“All that we need to do is to continue what we are doing now. Support our leaders. Tolerate us. Unite ourselves and of course remain focused.

“PDP may tell you something funny about the administration of APC at the national level but PDP ruled Nigeria for 16 years and all that they did was to leave or bequeathe so many challenges to us in 2015.

“We are dealing with those challenges one after the other and if on the way, we encounter new challenges, we are equal to the task.

“By the Grace of God we are going to turn around the fortunes of this country for the better. We have done so much but we are also challenged especially in the area of security.

“When someone tells you that the APC administration only takes loans or borrow money, PDP had 16 years of so much resources and they did very little infrastructure in the country if any. The money disappeared and our options are limited.

“But one option that is not on the table at all is not to do anything. Because you don’t have money, so we shouldn’t develop your country? Nigeria’s administration at the national level is responsible and responsive.

“We wouldn’t like to take loans or borrow money but when the options are limited and the imperative of development of infrastructure in the country are there, what do we do?

“If we have to borrow, we have to borrow responsibly, targeted at capital development and today I want to say without any fear of contradiction that in every part of this country, there is infrastructural development either in terms of roads, bridges, dams and so on and so forth.

“This is to tell you that we desire to develop our country and that for APC at all levels deserves the trust of Nigerians because we will always tell Nigerians what it is. We won’t hide anything because you gave us your trust.

“What you witness in Lagos is to tell you one of the best the APC can do and we have many APC states that are working so hard to develop those states.

“I want to assure Nigerians that APC as a political party is the one that you can trust because for us, the citizens of this country are the most essential elements and people that we must always focus on,” Lawan said.

The Senate President urged Lagosians to consider Governor Sanwo-Olu for another term based on his wonderful performance.

“Your Excellency, we have been watching you over the last two and half years. You have been very wonderful. You have been consistent in terms of service delivery to the people of Lagos State and indeed this country.

“You are focused. You are reliable. And I want to say even though the fate of politicians is in the hands of voters, your fate is in the hands of Lagosians but Your Excellency, I’m under this tremendous and massive temptation to say that one good turn deserves another term. We are proud of you. APC stakeholders, I hope I will be forgiven for this statement because that is what believe in seriously,” Lawan said.

The Senate President commended Senator Adeola aka Yayi who is also Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, for the programme which involved distribution of ambulances, incubators, drugs to health facilities and empowerment items to his constituents.

“What we will say about Distinguished senator Olamilekan, about his performance, his representation, is going to be weighty because we work with him. And I want to report here that you have voted for a very loyal person, very prolific and productive Senator who works round the clock.

“This your Senator, Yayi, has done so much for the Senate in terms of his productivity and I want to add here that Lagos West is controlling the economy of Nigeria. And I want to tell you why. Before the budget of the Federal Government is passed, you need a financial analysis of what will be available in revenues.

“It is  this Yayi and your Representative in the House, Honourable James Abiodun Faleke, the two of them will sit and decide on what is available for Nigeria to share. The size of the cake is decided by Yayi and Hon. Faleke. And I’m happy for you because you took the right decision by voting for him(Yayi).

“So you have given Nigeria a very solid, very stable, very reliable person to serve as your Senator. We are all appreciative for what you have been able to help us achieve in the Senate and in the National Assembly, for so many superlative performance that we have been able to achieve in the ninth Senate,” Lawan said..

The Senate President said the constituency projects were essentially to complement the efforts of the Federal and state governments.

Lawan said the various empowerment programmes being undertaking by members of the National Assembly were also to actualise the presidential efforts at reducing the poverty level in the country.

“This is what members of the National Assembly are doing across the country. And we believe that we will continue to do this as members of the National Assembly because our people, those who voted for us, are happy with it. Actually they need these things, we should be able to say congratulations to the beneficiaries,” Lawan said.

On the Senate President entourage from Abuja were Senator Mohammed Sani Musa,

Senator Micheal Opeyemi Bamidele and Senator Yakubu Oseni.

2023 General Elections: No aspirants ‘ll leave APC after primaries, says APC Chair, Adamu

The National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu has assured that no aspirants will leave the party after the party’s primaries, which are now slated for May 26th through 30th.

Adamu stated that the ruling APC does not only want to win but also wants to win big in 2023.

He made the assurance on Saturday  while addressing a group of party members in the diaspora at a global virtual town hall session on “Intra-Party democracy for the Emergence of Best Candidates.”

The programme, themed, “Democracy in Nigeria: Mobilizing Global Support for Progressives and Continuity,” was organized under the auspices of the APC Ward-to-ward Diaspora Network in collaboration with the APC Ward-to-ward Ambassadors.

The Chairman said, “Directly I want to tell you that after the primaries, non of the contestants of aspirants will leave the party.

You can see unlike the other parties extending weight, in our party all our aspirants are calm. Everybody is going left and right, trying to win votes for themselves.

Adamu, who was represented as a Special Assistant,  Prof. Abdullahi Yau, added, “I can assure you this is the most interesting part; the number of people that are contesting and they are going to give everybody a playing level ground where you can exercise your right as a Nigerian to contest.

“And at the end of the exercise,  just as what happened in the National convention, you see that everybody will be satisfied with whoever that emerges from the primaries.”

He said, “Unless you have a process that is not well coordinated, a process that is marred by irregularities that’s when people will be aggrieved and would want to leave the party.

If you’re allowed to exercise your right and you think there’s fairness in what’s going on in the party and you lose, I don’t think you would want to leave the party.

“I assure you even if we are going to have such a scenario, where we are going to have aggrieved members after the primaries, the Chairman and stakeholders of the party will ensure they reconcile everybody after the primaries,” he added.

He, however, said all aspirants would be listened to by a high-power delegation of the committee if there’s a tangible reason why they are complaining after the party’s primaries.

The Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the July 16 governorship election in Osun has expressed profound gratitude to Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, other Ife traditional rulers and the entire residents of the ancient town and its environs for trooping out en masse to receive Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, leaders and members of the party.
Recall that Governor Oyetola, on Thursday, flagged off his re-election campaign in Ile-Ife where he and his campaign team were received with open arms by the monarchs and residents of the town.
In a statement signed by its Director-General, Senator Ajibola Basiru, the Campaign Council thanked, specifically the market women and men, artisans, Ibira, Igbo and Hausa communities for their show of love which was demonstrated in action when the Governor and his entourage visited the Ooni’s palace yesterday.
The Campaign Council described the massive turnout of the people to the campaign venue as a testament to the undiluted love and passion they have for Governor Oyetola and the ruling APC.
According to the Council, the peaceful atmosphere experienced throughout the period that the visit to the palace and campaign venue lasted, coupled with the noble conduct on the part of the crowd at the rally were clear testimony to the fact that APC remains a rancour-free, peace-loving and model party.
“On behalf of the leadership and members of the APC Campaign Council of our candidate in the next Osun guber poll, Mr  Adegboyega Oyetola, I appreciate our revered monarch, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, other members of Ife traditional council, market women/men, artisans, Ibira community, Igbo community and Hausa community for receiving us warmly.
“The large turnout is an indication of the love and passion that the people have for us, and a show of appreciation of the modest achievements that God had used us to achieve.
“We appeal to you all to continue to support the Governor and translate your presence to massive votes for our party—the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the next governorship election in the State”, the statement reads.

Osun not for sale to highest bidder, Oyetola campaign council replies Adeleke, PDP

Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola

...warns him not to overheat polity

The Adegboyega Oyetola Campaign Council has described as absurd, unthinkable and totally unacceptable the boast by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke that he had acquired enough money in hard currencies to buy Osun and its people for the July 16 Governorship contest.

In a statement signed by its Director-General, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, the Campaign Council declared that Osun was not for sale to the highest bidder, just as it noted that on daily basis, the PDP candidate is proving to the Osun electorate that he had nothing to offer.

Senator Ademola, the PDP candidate had over the weekend during the party’s Osun Central Campaign rally, said “Osun people, you are the ones to decide. If it is about money, I have enough. I came with plenty money (hitting his pocket with his right hand). And it is not only naira, I came with dollars, pounds and Euro. This time around in Osun, it is fire for fire.”

Reacting to Ademola’s comment, the Oyetola Campaign Council said: “Osun people are not gullible. We have left them in no doubt of the quality our party, the APC and our Administration are made of, including the capacity of our candidate to deliver in the past three and half years. We have proved through our inclusive governance strategy that our people are our strength and that we do not take them for granted and we will never take them for granted. This explains why in spite of the way the 2018 election went, our administration began infrastructure intervention from Ede, the hometown of the PDP candidate.

“Osun people are enlightened, they Know that the State and its citizens are not up for sale to the highest bidder. Therefore, the PDP candidate should keep his money. Or better still, he could deploy those resources to establish industries to provide jobs for the people. This way, he will also be supporting the present Administration’s noticeable efforts in the last three and half years to industrialise the State and change its narrative as a Civil Service State, to one bubbling with economic activities.

“It is on record that the Oyetola-led administration has since inception taken concrete steps to open up the State for investments, and has been able to attract a number of investments into Osun, contributing to the economic growth of the State.

“We assure the PDP candidate that, like the Administration did to other players in the private sector, we will provide a level playing ground for his business to thrive and ensure Osun and its people derive maximum benefit from the investment.

The Campaign Council also cautioned Adeleke against overheating the polity with his incendiary comments and violent tendencies, wondering what he meant by saying ‘it’s fire for fire this time around’.

“As a responsible party, we urge Senator Adeleke and his party to embrace peaceful conduct and decorum in their political engagements and electioneering. We must avoid any comment or action that can jeopardise the peace and stability of our State,” the dded.
