As the Osun governorship election draws nearer, the traditional rulers under the aegis of Network of Kings From Osun Country Sides, have unanimously endorsed the candidature of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola saying “he is the most qualified among the contestants”.

The rural kings lauded the Governor for extending and expanding the frontier of socioeconomic and infrastructure development to the grassroots, saying his administration has rejuvenated the standard of living of the rural dwellers.

The traditional rulers declared that the monumental achievements of the government had further stimulated the rural economy, saying, “We cannot do without this government continuing for the next four years because we know the salt it has put in our soup.”

Speaking shortly after their meeting with the Governor in Osogbo, the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Network of Kings From Osun Country Sides, Oba Adekunle Adeogun Okunoye, said the decision to endorse the Governor was in view of his prudent tendency, meek character and administrative acumen in managing the affairs of the State amid scarce resources.

Oba Okunoye who doubles as the Eburu of Iba, said the governor’s excellent performance  after a critical evaluation of his people-oriented programmes and policies  earned him the collective endorsement of the rural monarchs across the nooks and crannies of the State.

“The kings from the rural areas have unanimously endorsed Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for a second term having met several times to discuss, assess and evaluate his performance in the last three and a half years.

“We did not just arrive at this excellent evaluation. The exercise involved the thorough, critical and extensive review of his administration’s policies, programmes and projects in the last three and a half years. We also examined the impact of these programmes on the generality of the populace vis-a-vis the standard of living of the people in the rural areas as well as the consciousness of the livelihood of vulnerable citizens and the  indigent.

“With this, we have come up with excellent evaluation and we are of the opinion that by virtue of our position, role and purpose in the society, it is important to communicate directly to our people on the direction to follow. This necessitated the endorsement in our attempt to give our people the direction objectively. We are not politicians but we are part of the government, hence, the need to evaluate the performance of Mr. Governor and resolve that it is important to allow the Governor to continue with his good works.

“Our decision to endorse Mr. Governor was collectively taken and sealed by every member. At the last count, we are more than 120 members. As you can see all members are here, the entire members met and made a resolution to endorse the Governor for a second term”, he said.

Corroborating the collective decision of the traditional rulers, the President, Network of Kings From Osun Country Sides, Oba Ojarotade Adewale, said Governor Oyetola deserves to be re-elected in view of his noble achievements since the assumption of office.

Oba Adewale who is the Alaa of Ilaajesa, said, “We are highly impressed because the past three and a half years of the administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has been very peaceful, rewarding and resourceful in all ramifications.

“In terms of socioeconomic, political and infrastructure developments, his government is excellent. In terms of  education, he has provided infrastructure that enables both teachers and students to study in a conducive environment. Also, in the health sector, security, agriculture, infrastructure and commerce, he has done creditably well.

“Having benefitted tremendously from the democratic dividends of his administration in the rural areas, we feel it is necessary to support him for a second term as part of effort to reciprocate his good works at the grassroots and rural communities.

“Most importantly is the continued upliftment of the rural kings. He has been giving us promotions, incentives, seminars, workshops to develop our skills and experience on the field.

“So, we cannot do without this government continuing for the next four years because we know the salt it has put into our soup. My advice is for us to go out en masse and vote for continuity, vote massively for the Governor that has passion for rural kings, the governor that developed our communities. Our votes should be counted. We should mobilise our youths, women and everyone to vote massively and return the Governor for a second term in office.”

In his response, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola expressed gratitude to the monarchs for their unflinching support and concerns about the development of the State.

“I sincerely appreciate our royal fathers for this endorsement. I look forward to July 16 of this month with confidence. What else do I expect when our monarchs have endorsed me for a  second term? I want to assure you that I will not disappoint you.

“I have listened to your comments and requests, I am a product of grassroots and I know your demands. I have charged our followers to have their PVCs. Please enjoin your people to get theirs too.

“I must thank you for the show of love and by the grace of God, come July 16, the people’s mandate will be renewed for us.”

Earlier in his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rasak Adeosun, described the decision of the monarchs as a reward of the commitment of the government to the development of the State and her citizens as seen in the giant strides recorded in the last three and a half years.

Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said he is uncertain about securing the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in a video circulating on social media, Obi told supporters that his focus remains on a broader political mission rather than personal ambition, noting that there is no guarantee he will emerge as the party’s flagbearer.

“I cannot be certain that the ADC will give me the presidential ticket. What matters is that we are committed to a cause,” he said.

The former Anambra State governor reflected on Nigeria’s current political climate, questioning how the situation evolved and the potential consequences if ongoing reform efforts are abandoned.

“I keep wondering how we ended up in this situation and what might happen if we decide to stop working on this project,” he added.
Obi also reaffirmed his commitment to his ideals despite reported threats, while expressing appreciation to his supporters for their continued loyalty.

“It’s not easy to be in the opposition in Nigeria, and I’m thankful to those who keep supporting even when there’s no clear reward,” he said.

He, however, raised concerns over the uncertainty of political alliances, warning about the possibility of shifting loyalties among stakeholders.
“How can we be certain that the people we’re working with right now won’t leave us behind tomorrow? I wish we could be sure, but we can’t,” he said.

No fewer than 20 members of the Ogun State House of Assembly have declared support for the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, citing his administration’s economic reforms and infrastructure development as key achievements.

The endorsement, announced on Wednesday in Abeokuta, aligns with an earlier position taken by the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Governor Dapo Abiodun and other party stakeholders.

Speaking on behalf of the lawmakers at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat, the Majority Leader, Hon. Sherrif Yusuf, said the decision reflects confidence in the President’s efforts to stabilise the economy and expand critical infrastructure nationwide.

According to Yusuf, the administration has made notable progress in fiscal reforms and road development connecting key economic corridors, adding that continuity would help consolidate ongoing gains.

The lawmakers also unanimously endorsed the governorship ambition of Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, describing him as an experienced legislator with a strong record of performance and commitment to public service.

Yusuf highlighted Adeola’s contributions in the National Assembly, including leadership roles in strategic committees and advocacy for development projects and empowerment initiatives across Ogun State.

In addition, the Assembly members expressed support for Governor Abiodun’s future political aspirations beyond his current tenure, noting that his administrative experience and governance record position him for higher responsibilities.

The lawmakers reaffirmed their commitment to the APC, pledging continued support for leaders whose policies and vision align with the aspirations of the people of Ogun State and Nigeria.

Former Senate Minority Leader, Philip Tanimu Aduda, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging to secure victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the 2027 general elections.

Aduda was formally received into the APC on Tuesday at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, where the National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, handed him the party’s insignia in the presence of key members of the National Working Committee and supporters.

Welcoming the former lawmaker, Yilwatda described the APC as Nigeria’s leading progressive platform, highlighting ongoing economic reforms and major infrastructure projects under Tinubu’s administration. He pointed to the Sokoto–Badagry road project as a strategic corridor expected to boost agriculture, commerce, and national connectivity, adding that recent policies have strengthened the non-oil sector and improved the country’s trade balance.

Explaining his decision, Aduda said his defection was informed by “alignment and realignment,” citing what he described as visible development strides in the FCT. He commended Tinubu for granting the territory autonomy from the Treasury Single Account and establishing the FCT Civil Service Commission, moves he said have enhanced career progression for civil servants.

“I was in the minority for nearly seven years and couldn’t secure a ministerial slot for the FCT. This President has recognised us and given us representation in the Federal Executive Council,” Aduda stated.

He dismissed opposition parties in the territory as weak, expressing confidence that the APC would dominate the FCT in 2027. He also referenced the party’s performance in recent area council elections, where it secured five out of six councils, as evidence of its growing political strength.

Also speaking, FCT APC Chairman, Abdulmalik Usman, described Aduda as a political heavyweight whose defection would significantly boost the party’s electoral prospects. He noted that the APC is well-positioned to mobilise over 1.7 million registered voters in the FCT ahead of the next general elections.

The high-profile defection is expected to reshape political alignments in Abuja, as parties begin early strategic positioning for the 2027 polls.
