JAMAICAN MINISTER, AMBASSADOR VISIT TOURISM SITES IN BADAGRY

The position of Badagry as a major tourist destination in Lagos State and Nigeria was again reaffirmed by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Affairs in Jamaica, Kamina Smith-Johnson, during a recent visit to the ancient town in the company of the Ambassador of Jamaica to Nigeria, Esmond Reid.

Receiving the visitors on behalf of the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture on Monday at the Badagry Marina, the Director of Research and Development, Mrs. Yetunde Simpson, expressed pleasure identifying with the foreign tourists and also taking them around historical sites in Badagry.

She expressed the hope that the visit would further project Lagos and Nigeria’s tourism potentials, envisaging that more international tourists would also be stimulated by the visit of the Jamaican Minister and Ambassador.

Addressing the tourists at their first port of call, the Palace of the Akran of Badagry, the Head of Badagry Heritage Museum, Mr. Peter Mesewaku explained the important position which Badagry occupies in the area of Western Education, Christianity and Trans Atlantic Slavery.

After visiting the Palaces of the Akran and Wawu of Badagry respectively, the visitors stopped over at Mobee Slave Museum and Badagry Heritage Museum as well as Seriki Faremi Williams Abass Slave Museum for a deeper understanding of the Trans Atlantic Slavery before its abolition.

In her remarks, the Jamaican Minister, Kamina Smith-Johnson, thanked the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture for taking time to share the history of Badagry with them, just as she also acknowledged the warm reception accorded her and her entourage.

Her words: “It is an honour for me to bring greetings on behalf of the people and government of Jamaica.

This visit is like a homecoming for me because those of us in Jamaica have always described ourselves as descendants of the people of Africa and Nigeria”.

“Just as it is very emotional for us to know every part of ourselves from our roots here, it is even a greater honour to us for the warm and homely reception we received from the period we arrived here in Badagry up till now”, Smith-Johnson added

The founder of Silverbird Group, Ben Murray-Bruce, has announced the appointment of Roy Murray-Bruce as the new Chairman of the organisation, succeeding him after decades of leadership at the helm of the company.

Ben Murray-Bruce expressed confidence in the new chairman’s ability to lead the company into another phase of growth and innovation, stating that the organisation would continue to uphold its tradition of excellence and industry leadership across Africa.

Kellyrae Emerges Winner Of BBNaija Season 9

Kellyrae on Sunday was crowned the winner of this year’s Nig Brother Naija Season 9, taking home the grand prize of N60 million, an SUV, and other rewards.

He pipped fellow housemate Wanni who emerged runer-up and Onyeka. who emerged as the second runner-up.

Kellyrae now joins the likes of last season’s All-Stars winner Ilebaye Odiniya (Gen Z Baddie) to claim the grand prize.

Regarded as Nigeria’s most anticipated TV show, this season’s theme ”No Loose Guard”, which premiered on July 24, 2024, welcomed 14 pairs of housemates,

However, only one pair and six individual contestants made it to the final.

The other finalists were Victoria, Ozee, Sooj, Nelly, and Anita.

This year’s edition had an unusual twist as the participants were required to apply in pairs.

How Gospel Musician, Aduke Gold Died

The Chairman of Yemi Sonde Media Group, owner of the popular radio, YES FM, Mr Yemi Sonde, has revealed what led to the death of the popular Gospel musician Aduke Gold.

The news of her passing filtered in in the midnight on Tuesday while the cause of her death was unknown as of the time the news broke.

Mourning the gifted musician on a Radio Programme, Sonde disclosed that Aduke Gold died during fibroid surgery in the hospital.

He said, her cause of death was what many women had passed through and came out alive but Aduke Gold was unlucky.

Sonde said, “When I was about to sleep around 12 in the midnight, I saw the news on the social media, I could not believe it.

“I then picked my phone to call Aduke Gold. I called her like six times, she did not pick up.

“She went to do Fibroid Operation like any other woman but she could not come out of the theater alive. It is painful.”
