Former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has regained his freedom after two days in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Tambuwal was detained on Monday when he appeared at the EFCC headquarters to answer questions over allegations of fraudulent cash withdrawals amounting to N189 billion during his tenure as governor.

According to EFCC sources, the former governor was granted administrative bail after fulfilling all stipulated conditions. His release came amid growing political tension over the case.

In a sharp rebuke, the anti-graft agency accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of attempting to politicise its investigation, insisting that its work is guided solely by evidence and due process.

The EFCC stressed that no individual, regardless of political affiliation, is above scrutiny in the ongoing fight against corruption.

The Presidency has dismissed claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is critically ill and preparing to travel abroad for urgent medical treatment.

The denial follows a report by the Nigerian Institute for Investigative Journalism (NIIJ) last week alleging that the President’s medical team was making arrangements for an emergency evacuation. The report also claimed Tinubu had been bedridden, with Vice President Kashim Shettima taking over official engagements and several presidential activities being cancelled.

In an interview with BBC Hausa on Monday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Print Media, AbdulAziz AbdulAziz, described the allegations as unfounded and politically motivated.

Speculation about the President’s health intensified after his absence from the August 3 ceremony honouring Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, where the Vice President represented him. Tinubu’s last public appearance was on August 1 at the opening of the Summit on Journalism for National Development.

The Presidency maintained that the President remains actively engaged in his official duties and urged the public to disregard the health rumours.

In a stunning twist to Nigeria’s most talked-about aviation dramas, the Federal Government has set free Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger jailed for in-flight unruliness, and drastically cut Fuji icon KWAM 1’s flight ban to just one month!

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, dropped this hint on Wednesday after tense meetings with industry bigwigs, following days of public uproar over airport controversies.

Emmanson—whose fiery altercation aboard an Ibom Air flight on August 10 had her thrown behind bars—reportedly wept with remorse in the presence of police and her lawyer. With Ibom Air pulling the plug on its complaint, Keyamo ordered her immediate release from Kirikiri Prison.

Meanwhile, the Airline Operators of Nigeria have agreed to scrap her lifetime ban, with a full reconciliation statement on the way.
