President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is well-positioned to win future elections in the country.

He declared this on Friday when he received members of the National Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) led by Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, at the State House in Abuja.

According to the President, the reconciliatory efforts done by the CECPC have ensured members are moving with a single purpose and positioned the party as the favourite in the country.

“With the work done by the committee the party has bounced back to life,’’ the President declared adding that “I have listened with great interest the remarkable job you have done so far.”

“We are all witnesses to the crisis that engulfed the party leading to litigations and presented a picture of selfishness and division.’’

Buhari promised the caretaker committee that they would continue to enjoy the support of party members until a substantive set of leaders emerge for the APC from its convention.

He expressed confidence in the leadership abilities of the committee and told them to remain focused.

“We want to leave behind a legacy of transparency and fairness, which the party needs to survive,’’ he added.

In his remarks during the meeting, the Chairman of the CECPC, Governor Buni said the frequent defections from other parties, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC is further testimony that the ruling party is back on track.

“We are currently witnessing high powered decamping to our party, including governors from the PDP.

“The party is now more peaceful, orderly and accommodating than what we met on the ground. Although there was initial fear, the mobilisation and sensitization was able to allay the fears of members,’’ Buni said.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the party remains unmoved by the decision of the Delta North Senator, Peter Nwaoboshi to dump the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The reaction comes after the Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, on Friday presented Nawaoboshi to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa.

The APC caretaker chairman warmly welcomed the lawmaker and briefed the President on how they have managed the affairs of the party in the past year, Naija News recalls.

Nwaoboshi who was elected on the platform of the PDP in the 2019 general elections chairs the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs.

Earlier this week, he was suspended by the Delta state chapter of the PDP for alleged anti-party activities.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State has rejected the outcome of the re-run elections in Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa constituencies, alleging widespread irregularities, violence, and voter intimidation.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday in Kano, the state PDP Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Kibiya, described the exercise as “totally devoid of democratic principles.” He accused political thugs of disrupting the process and intimidating eligible voters, calling the elections “a charade.”

Kibiya urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to guarantee a level playing field for all political parties, warning that the credibility of the electoral process was at stake. He also called on security agencies to protect voters, maintain peace, and prevent violence during elections.

The PDP chairman further advised political leaders to avoid inflammatory rhetoric and demanded investigations into alleged electoral breaches, with prosecution of offenders to deter future misconduct.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Police Command announced the arrest of 288 suspected thugs during the elections. Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori disclosed the figure in Shanono Local Government Area, adding that investigations were ongoing and that those found culpable would be prosecuted.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded the cancellation of the by-election for Shanono-Bagwai Constituency and the rerun election in Ghari Constituency of Kano State.

APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, in a statement on Saturday, alleged that the polls were marred by widespread violence and disruptions by armed thugs at several polling units.

He said voters were forced to flee polling areas while security personnel deployed to the constituencies were overwhelmed by the attacks.

Morka argued that the situation made it impossible to conduct a credible election.
