Court Sacks David Mark-Led ADC Leadership, Nullifies Atiku’s 2027 Presidential Candidacy

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sacked the Senator David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring its emergence as the party’s leadership invalid and nullifying all actions taken by the executive under his leadership.

The judgment also invalidates the party’s nomination of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, throwing the ADC’s presidential ambition into uncertainty ahead of the polls.

Justice Peter Lifu, who delivered the judgment, upheld the claims brought before the court by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former National Deputy Chairman (North-East) of the ADC, who challenged the process through which the Senator Mark-led leadership assumed control of the party.

Gombe had argued that following the resignation of the party’s former National Chairman, Chief Ralph Nwosu, he was constitutionally entitled to assume the position of National Chairman. He maintained that the emergence of the Mark-led leadership violated the ADC constitution and relevant provisions of the Electoral Act.

In his suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1819/2025, the plaintiff asked the court to nullify all decisions and actions taken by the Senator Mark-led executive on behalf of the party.

He also sought an order restraining Senator Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from parading themselves as the ADC National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively.

The defendants in the suit included the ADC, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Senator David Mark, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and Chief Ralph Nwosu.

The court found merit in Gombe’s arguments and granted the reliefs sought, effectively invalidating the authority of the Mark-led leadership and the decisions taken under its administration.

The ruling has significant implications for the ADC’s preparations for the 2027 general election, particularly the presidential ticket of Atiku Abubakar, whose name had earlier been published by INEC as the party’s presidential candidate.

Atiku had also reportedly selected former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as his running mate for the presidential contest.

The judgment is expected to trigger further political and legal developments within the opposition party, especially as the country prepares for the presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027.

However, the ADC has rejected the outcome of the case and vowed to challenge the judgment at the Court of Appeal.

Reacting to the ruling, the party’s National Welfare Secretary, Nkemakolam Ukandu, who was subsequently joined in the matter as an interested party, said the ADC would appeal the decision, expressing the party’s determination to seek redress at the appellate court.

The appeal process is expected to determine the next phase of the leadership crisis and the fate of the party’s political decisions ahead of the 2027 elections.

Hon. Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has unveiled the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation (HBTO) to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, announcing plans for a two-million-man march and subsidised transportation services nationwide.

Abba made the announcement at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, describing HBTO as a national political mobilisation platform for Nigerians who believe in President Tinubu’s leadership and reform agenda.

He acknowledged that his decision to support Tinubu could attract public attention because of his family background, but stressed that political choices are matters of personal conviction and individual freedom.

“My decision to establish and lead the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation is a deliberate political choice, one I have made in my personal capacity and with a firm belief in the direction we have chosen to pursue,” he said.

Abba said the organisation would mobilise grassroots support, engage communities and communicate government policies beyond political gatherings.

He expressed support for the Tinubu administration’s reforms, citing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as one of the initiatives providing opportunities for students and young graduates.

As part of its interventions, Abba announced plans to deploy 10 luxury buses in the Federal Capital Territory and six buses in each of the 36 states to provide transportation services at subsidised rates.

He said the initiative would begin in Abuja before expanding nationwide, adding that political support should translate into tangible benefits for Nigerians.

On preparations for the 2027 general election, Abba disclosed that HBTO was planning a two-million-man mobilisation march across the six geopolitical zones, beginning in Abuja.

He also announced plans for a major mobilisation exercise in Rivers State next week, saying the organisation had activated structures across the country.

Abba said HBTO would work with political stakeholders, community leaders, youth and women groups to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

**Oyebanji charges stakeholders on unity, grassroots mobilisation; Bamidele expresses confidence in council’s capacity to deliver**

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has set an ambitious target of securing 90 per cent of the total registered votes in the state for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, following the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council.

The council, inaugurated as part of efforts to consolidate the party’s political structures and strengthen its electoral machinery ahead of the 2027 presidential election, is expected to spearhead grassroots mobilisation, voter sensitisation and strategic engagement across the state’s 16 local government areas.

Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, who doubles as the State Coordinator of the council, described the re-election project as a collective responsibility requiring unity, commitment and sustained collaboration among party leaders, stakeholders and members.

He charged members of the council to demonstrate unwavering dedication to the party’s electoral objectives, stressing that the ambitious 90 per cent target would only be achievable through strategic planning, effective coordination and robust grassroots mobilisation.

Oyebanji disclosed that the campaign strategy would involve the identification and tracking of Permanent Voter Card (PVC) holders across polling units and wards, irrespective of their political affiliations, as part of efforts to establish a comprehensive voter mobilisation framework.

According to him, the initiative would enable the party to strengthen its engagement with the electorate, identify voting patterns and develop effective strategies for reaching eligible voters across the state.

The governor further urged members of the council to take the policies, programmes and achievements of the APC-led Federal Government to every community, ward and polling unit, noting that sustained engagement with the people would be critical to securing electoral victory.

He emphasised the need for members to work collectively, maintain a strong presence at the grassroots and ensure that the party’s message resonates with voters ahead of the presidential election.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, expressed confidence in the ability of the council to deliver on its mandate, citing the unity, political experience and collective commitment of stakeholders in Ekiti State.

Bamidele, who is the Leader of the Senate, said the cohesion among party leaders and stakeholders remained a significant advantage for the APC as it prepares for the 2027 presidential election.

He called for sustained grassroots mobilisation, voter sensitisation and strategic political engagement, urging members to intensify efforts towards consolidating the party’s support base across the state.

The Senate Leader stressed the importance of effectively communicating the policies, programmes and achievements of President Tinubu’s administration to the electorate, noting that a well-coordinated campaign would be instrumental in securing the support of voters for the President’s re-election.

He urged members of the council to approach the assignment with a strong sense of responsibility, commitment and determination, while ensuring that the campaign remained focused on the party’s electoral objectives.

The newly inaugurated members of the council, in their response, pledged their commitment to the campaign, assuring the leadership of their readiness to work collectively towards achieving the party’s target.

The inauguration marks a significant step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election in Ekiti State, with the party seeking to consolidate its political dominance through an expanded grassroots mobilisation strategy and coordinated engagement with the electorate.

With the 90 per cent vote target now at the centre of its campaign strategy, the party is expected to intensify political activities across the state as it begins the process of translating its mobilisation plans into electoral support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
