President Bola Tinubu has expressed delight over the successful rescue of the pupils and teachers who were abducted in Oriire community, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, praising the security agencies for carrying out the operation without any casualties.
The President said the rescue, which came after 56 days in captivity, was made possible through the combined efforts of the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force.
According to him, the operation also led to the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers, while several others were neutralised during the mission.
President Tinubu described the development as a major relief for the victims, their families, and the entire nation, noting that the successful operation had ended weeks of anxiety and uncertainty.
He also expressed sympathy to the rescued children, their teachers, and their loved ones for the trauma they endured during the period of their abduction.
The President commended the Oyo State Government for working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies throughout the rescue efforts, urging the state to strengthen security around schools to prevent similar incidents.
“I am profoundly happy that our security forces successfully rescued the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire, Ogbomoso, in Oyo State after a military, police, and intelligence-driven operation that neutralised some of the terrorists and led to the arrest of eight others,” Tinubu said.
He added that the operation had brought an end to more than 50 days of captivity and commended the armed forces, intelligence agencies, and the police for ensuring the safe return of the victims.
President Tinubu also assured Nigerians that those responsible for the abduction would face justice.
“My government will get justice for these children and their teachers and for the family of Mr. Oyedokun, who the terrorists gruesomely murdered,” he stated.
The President further directed relevant emergency response agencies to work with the Oyo State Government to provide the rescued children and teachers with all necessary medical care, trauma support, and relief assistance.
