….“We started it all” — Former Minister bares all in explosive political confession

In a revelation that’s sending ripples across Nigeria’s political landscape, former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that he and ex-Ekiti Governor Kayode Fayemi are the masterminds behind the opposition coalition now challenging the Tinubu administration.

Speaking during a heated political discussion on “Weekend Politics”, hosted on X Spaces Friday night, Amaechi disclosed that the movement, now a national force, was born out of private strategy sessions between the two political heavyweights.

“Fayemi and I began the coalition discussion, and we subsequently agreed to broaden it so that it would involve more than just the two of us talking about starting a new party,” Amaechi stated, adding, “We must create a middle class, and put money in the pockets of Nigerians; insecurity will reduce.”

The coalition has rapidly gained momentum, attracting some of the most influential names in Nigerian politics, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former SGF Babachir Lawal. Also in the mix are Boss Mustapha, ex-Senate President David Mark, former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola, and ex-Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi.

In a bold move signaling their seriousness, the coalition recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political vehicle to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

Amaechi, never one to shy from political battles, also used the opportunity to reflect on his early rise to power.

“I was the first Speaker at the age of 32 years and led the Rivers State Assembly for 8 years without being impeached,” he said, underscoring his political resilience.

With this revelation, Nigeria’s 2027 political chessboard just became a lot more interesting — and far more unpredictable.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a blistering attack on former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, claiming he is now trapped in the fate he once warned others about.

In a fiery post on its official X handle Friday, the APC branded El-Rufai as “a stellar example of pointing one accusing finger with four pointing back”, accusing him of masking “the harrowing hollowness” within through his loud public criticisms.

El-Rufai, once a key architect of the APC, dramatically dumped the party in March for the Social Democratic Party (SDP). But his political gamble quickly backfired — by July, he was not only expelled from the SDP but slapped with a jaw-dropping 30-year ban from the party.

With his political career on the ropes, the APC’s latest jab suggests the former governor is now tasting the bitter medicine he once prescribed for others.

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, says the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains confident about President Bola Tinubu’s re-election prospects in 2027, insisting that opposition parties lack the capacity to unseat him.

Speaking on Friday during a courtesy visit to APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Sule praised Yilwatda’s emergence, describing him as “another Renewed Hope Agenda chairman” whose leadership would address the North Central’s long-standing demand for the return of the party chairmanship to the zone.

Sule maintained that President Tinubu’s achievements would make his re-election “an easy ride,” stressing that the APC is more focused on strengthening its structures and delivering on promises than monitoring rival parties.

“We have never been worried about the opposition. We are concerned about our strength and what we need to do for Nigerians,” he said. “Personally, I don’t pay attention to what other parties are doing.”

He dismissed the newly formed coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as weak, describing it as a splinter group from opposition parties.

On developments in Nasarawa, Sule said insecurity had reduced significantly in recent years, enabling farmers to return to their fields and boosting food security.

The governor highlighted the state’s agricultural investments in line with the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that Nasarawa had cultivated and harvested 2,000 hectares of rice in 2024 and expanded by another 1,300 hectares this year. He said the Minister of Agriculture recently visited the state and commended the initiative.
